St. Kitts recognised as 2023 Caribbean Destination of the Year; cruise industry ensures positive outlook for remaining season

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Caribbean Journal expressed that St. Kitts appeals to 21st-century travellers, which sets the destination uniquely apart from its competitors.

St. Kitts is considered the Caribbean island that provided visitors with the richest and most authentic travel experience in 2022, thus receiving the Caribbean Journal 2023 Caribbean Destination of the Year Award.

Through its recent brand launch campaign, “Venture Deeper”, the St.Kitts Tourism Authority seemed to have influenced individuals in regional and international source markets that St. Kitts is the best place to visit, as noticed from the significant number of cruise visits and visitors in November. Invigorating activity at Port Zante, the beaches and other significant places around the island continues to unfold in December with expected triple, quadruple and quintuple cruise calls in a single day. Five cruise calls were scheduled for Thursday, December 8, which include Azamara Onward, MS Sirena, MSC Seaside, Star Flyer and Rotterdam.

The cruise industry is viewed as the driver of the island’s Tourism product, which so far has brought historic memories to St. Kitts. One such memory is the visit of Wonder of the Seas- the world’s largest cruise ship to St. Kitts. The Oasis-class cruise ship docked at the Port Zante Cruise Pier on Thursday, November 24, 2022.

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr Terrance Drew, in an interview with Kittitian Heartbeat, lauds the visit of Wonder of the Seas as a positive marker for the Tourism sector, thus thanking the stakeholders who contributed in any form to a successful trip for the cruise line and the passengers.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling; I think that’s the thought, to see such a large ship come to St.Kitts and the large number of persons who came off. My thoughts really are on the Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Marsha Henderson who worked tremendously hard to ensure that Tourism as far as cruise arrivals this season would be the success that it would be and have started off with. My thoughts are on the people of St. Kitts and Nevis who will benefit, but I want to thank all those who are involved; from the Tourism [Authority, Ministry), from the port, the taxi drivers, those who will provide the tours and so forth, the workers, anybody at all who would have been involved, to really express my appreciation and thanks for making this a reality. This is all around a positive, positive event for St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Goldha Franks – Product Development Manager at the St.Kitts Tourism Authority, suggests that a continued relationship with the Royal Caribbean Group will ensure more visits of Oasis-class ships to the island.

“It is a significant moment for us because it shows our continued relationship with the Royal Caribbean Group as we get more and more ships from the Royal Caribbean. We have had previous Oasis class ships such as the Allure of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas and the Oasis of the seas. Now to have Wonder of the Seas is a fantastic opportunity for St. Kitts.”

WINN FM reporters have made consistent visits to Port Zante, and it is noticeable that there continue to be increased cruise calls to the shores of St.Kitts; thus providing exciting opportunities for tourism stakeholders to capitalise on their offerings as they try to rebuild from their losses of the past two years.
