St. Pauls Primary School hosts Great Kindness Challenge, a week of activities commemorating World Kindness Day

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – The St. Pauls Primary School is hosting a week of activities entitled The Great Kindness Challenge from November 14-18 to commemorate World Kindness Day.

In a release from the Education Media Unit Guidance Counsellor and Organizer of the week, Ms Charmaine Williams spoke of the inspiration behind the week of activities which she said seeks to encourage students to be positive and have healthy interpersonal relationships.

“Sunday, November 13, was recognised as World Kindness day, so I decided it would be good for us at St. Pauls Primary to celebrate the week so as to encourage our students to practice kindness not only during this week but throughout their lives”.

The Guidance Counsellor said kindness could start with a simple smile.

“Start with the simple things for the children, encourage them to speak ‘nice’ words; as it relates to their actions, I encourage them to smile at someone they meet and extend pleasant and polite greetings. As students practice these things, they are demonstrating kindness.”

With those practices, Williams hopes that the children will then grow into adults who will continue those practices and emphasises that Kindness Week is not only for students but also for the staff at St. Paul’s Primary.

The week launched with an activity named “kick it into gear and help someone near”, an activity aimed at inspiring the older students to help the younger ones. Students will demonstrate acts of kindness to themselves and others through compliments, healthy eating, inviting a new friend to play, acts of kindness, and refraining from negative name-calling.

World Kindness Day is celebrated every year on November 13 to commemorate the power of kindness and its impact on others. Although not recognised by any international organisations like the United Nations, World Kindness Day is celebrated widely around the globe.
