(Loops News) – St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded double-digit figures in coronavirus cases and several of these cases are in emergency shelters that were set up to aid those in need following the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.
The Ministry of Health says 18 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 192 samples processed on April 30, resulting in a positivity rate of 9.4 per cent.
Sixteen of these 18 cases are evacuees in emergency shelters. No new COVID-19 cases were recorded from 44 samples processed on May 1.
Twelve new recoveries were noted over the reporting period. Currently, in SVG, 140 cases are active and 11 persons with COVID-19 have died.
Since March last year, 1882 cases of COVID-19 and 1731 recoveries have been recorded in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
As of May 1, a total of 14,546 vaccine doses have been administered.
The public continues to be urged to use masks, [sanitize], physically distance and get vaccinated to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
