St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Students of the Cayon Primary School will have an opportunity to showcase their diverse talents on the night of Friday, May 26, at the hosting of the Excellence Princess and Calypso Show.
Five females are expected to participate in the Princess category of the show. They include Donecia Wilkes, Tatiana Creary, Tashenia Thomas, Malesha Sutton and Bijonelle Gibson.
Additionally, Ezekiel Huggins, Jamia Buchanan, Ju’dah Prince, Nezaiye Williams and Alijah Mitcham are the Calypsonians who are expected to participate in the show.
A WINN FM reporter spoke to Mr Javan Cannonier, Principal of the Cayon Primary School, on Tuesday morning, May 16, 2023. The principal said the event was held in 2019, but due to the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, the show wasn’t held in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
However, Cannonier shared the event’s purpose and how it could impact the lives of the participating students.
“At the Cayon Primary School, we believe that excellence is enshrined within each and every student. The Princess and Calypso show is a means for them to showcase their talent. We believe that the exposure will not only enhance their confidence but allow them to tap into that latent potential that they have to develop other skills. As it pertains to the girls in particular. It is not only beauty, but it’s their wit. It’s their cognitive ability to show out and to showcase to the rest of the world.”
The Cayon Primary Principal added, “The boys, it’s not only rhythmic, but it’s a means of them to demonstrate their talent in a capacity that integrates kaiso or calypso in their own way or artform, and this promotes the development of our culture, and it showcases that our culture is still strong and alive.”
The theme for the Excellence Princess and Calypso Show is “Excellence is not a skill; it is an attitude.”
The event is slated for Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Maynard’s Park, Cayon St.Kitts, at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are available at the Cayon Primary School; adults- $25.00, teens- $20.00 and Children $15.00.
