St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The prize-giving ceremony for the St. Kitts National Carnival competition is scheduled for this evening.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SugarMas 49 through persistence and ingenuity was held largely as an online event with people interacting online rather than meeting, in large numbers, at a physical location.
The Senior Calypso Monarch competition was the headline event for SugarMas 49 as it was announced that the traditional events, the Grand Parade, Pageants, and Last lap, would not be held.
The 2020 winner of the Senior Calypso Monarch competition was former National Carnival Queen, Gloria Esdaille Robinson or Queeny G with her rendition of “We’re In This Together” a song about surviving, or even thriving, during the coronavirus pandemic.
Queeny G follows in the footsteps of Socrates, Sylvester Hodge who won in 2019; Queen Independent, Kerissa Willet, who won in 2017 and 2018.
Another feature of the SugarMas49 was the Panorama Steel Band Competition which was won by EBJ (Earl Boots Jones) Harmonics.
That event had a live audience at Carnival Village on December 23, 2020, and was also streamed online.
The prize-giving ceremony will feature performances by Queeny G, Lala, and EBJ Harmonics.
