St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Charlestown Fire Department on Nevis responded to a fire report at 1:18 am on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at a property in Old Manor Gingerland.
According to reports, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the front area of a house engulfed in flames. According to a report, this section of the home was used as office space for an offshore business. All contents including an AC Unit, desk, chairs, files, filing cabinet and other furniture and appliances were destroyed. Other areas of the house encountered heat and smoke damages.
WINN FM was also informed that the house was owned by Mr and Mrs Dexter and Jessica Buchanan and consisted of one bedroom, one kitchen, an office, two bathrooms and a basement.
Meanwhile, the daughter of the Buchanans usually occupies the bedroom space in the afternoons. It was reported that the back door to the property was broken and the condition of the bedroom was ransacked, despite the property being previously secured.
Neighbours reported that they smelled gasoline, followed by a loud explosion and soon realised that flames were coming from the front area of the house.
The response team consisted of officers from the St.Kitts- Nevis Fire and Rescue Services and the Royal St.Christopher and Nevis Police force.
The suspected cause of the fire is arson.
