St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Trinbago Knight Riders scored a hefty 250-4 in their match against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on Saturday night, August 31.
The Knight Riders’ first wicket fell in 3.5 overs, and Sunil Narine, with his 38-run contribution, walked away from the field of play.
The team’s star player and man of the match, Nicholas Pooran, scored 97 runs but walked away seemingly with mixed emotions. He was able to set up his team with a big score and registered his fastest half-century to date, 50 off 21 balls. However, the disappointment came when Pooran was caught inside the boundary line as he tried to go for a maximum to claim the first century of the 2024 tournament.
Kacey Carty exhibited excellent batting skills and resilience, sending balls flying in the air and over the boundary at opportune times. He scored 73, not out of 35 balls.
Multiple mishaps in the field by the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were glory moments for the Knight Riders. Odean Smith had a difficult time in the field, dropping several catches from varying positions on the ground. Dominic Drakes failed to get it quite right with the ball, registering the most expensive spell in the history of the Caribbean Premier League, more than 70 runs.
The Patriots’ receipt of a red card put further pressure on them. They received stop-clock penalties for exceeding the time that was allotted to them.
In response, the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots achieved 205-8. However, no strong partnerships were built, and meeting the target became increasingly impossible.
The Patriots lost its Captain Andre Fletcher for nought and Kayle Mayers on 6 in the first over of the innings. Evin Lewis looked promising at the crease with 39 runs but did not manage to hold on. The lead run scorer for the Patriots and the lone Kittitian on the squad, Mikyle Louis, had some fairly impressive knocks, thus earning the Republic Bank’s Player of the Match award. He smashed Seven Fours and Two Sixes before being caught out on 56.
In a post-match interview, Louis told the press that he would have liked to score more runs and win the game for the Patriots. However, Louis was happy to play before his home crowd for the first time since he was called to the West Indies.
Meanwhile, Warner Park Cricket Stadium, one of the smallest facilities in the world, has seen some of the highest-scoring opportunities in world cricket history. In the August 31 match, the third umpire was forced to facilitate ball replacement multiple times as the batsmen kept knocking the balls outside the stadium.
The following CPL match at Warner Park was scheduled for September 01 2024: St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots versus St. Lucia Kings at 7:00 p.m.
