Tropical Storm Fiona expected to affect the Federation from Friday into the weekend

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Tropical Storm Fiona is expected to affect the Federation starting Friday and is expected to continue throughout the weekend.

Tropical Storm Fiona continues to approach the Leewards.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area within 36 hours.

According to Forecaster Dale Destin out of Antigua and Barbuda, Tropical Storm Fiona is forecast to impact the islands

late Friday night as a strong tropical storm and poses a medium threat with the potential to cause significant impacts from storm-force solid winds, high seas and moderate flooding, resulting in life-threatening conditions and disruptions to daily life.

The weather forecast from the St. Kitts Meteorological Services valid until 8 a.m. Saturday, September 17 says:

Winds NorthEast at 17 to 25 mph, initially reaching as high as 35 to 45 mph, with gusts of 55 mph during the passage of Tropical Storm Fiona.

Seas; 3.1 to 4.6 meters, or 10 to 15 feet, with swells up to 2.4 meters or eight feet. Both a small craft and high surface warnings will remain in effect during the passage of Fiona. Mariners should stay in port and seek safe anchorage, while beachgoers should avoid these waters at all costs.

Weather forecast for St. Kitts and Nevis: the movement of Tropical Storm Fiona into the area later today (September 16) will lead to very unsettled weather conditions over and around the islands as we remain under a Tropical Storm Warning during the forecast period.

Rainfalls total of two to six inches is possible during that time.

The weather today, Friday, September 16; partly cloudy skies with a 60 percent or moderate chance of brief passing showers, initially becoming increasingly cloudy to overcast with numerous showers, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds as Tropical Storm Fiona moves into the area.

The weather tonight (September 16) is overcast and windy conditions with numerous showers, thunderstorms and strong, gusty winds.
