St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A new storm is churning in the Atlantic Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center advisory states that Tropical Storm Elsa is moving westward near 28 mph and that an even faster west northwest motion is expected in the next 24 to 36 hours.

At 11 a.m. the center of the storm was located 680 miles east southeast of the Windward Islands.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts and tropical storm winds extend outward 90 miles from the center.

Barbados, Martinique, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines are all under a Tropical Storm Warning while Guadeloupe and Grenada are under a Tropical Storm Watch.

Elsa is the earliest known fifth named storm on record in the Atlantic, breaking the record set by Edouard on July 6, 2020.
