(Trinidad Express) – Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says that, based on police advice, he will recommend that the Stink + Dutty fete be banned from Chaguaramas.
The fete attracted more than 17,000 patrons to the Heliport in Chaguaramas on Saturday, resulting later in gridlock traffic throughout the day along the peninsula.
Several businesses were forced to close, residents along the route had no access to and from their homes, and there were multiple vehicular accidents and incidents that required police intervention.
In a telephone interview with the Express yesterday, Alexander said that, contrary to reports, there was a comprehensive police plan in place which included the deployment of more than 100 officers for the event.
However, he acknowledged that the plan ultimately failed given the sheer volume of people and the single, narrow access route.
The minister said he spoke to both the Police Commissioner and the ACP for the North West Division and was advised that “no event of that magnitude can be held there again”.
