Tucker Clarke Primary School Principal emphasise parents role in the wholesome development of the children

by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Principal Devon Harris of the Tucker Clarke Primary School says staff, parents and children must work together as a team for the betterment of the students and the school.

The 2022-2023 school year in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is fast approaching and the Tucker Clarke Primary School is gearing up for a successful year ahead.

Principal Harris said the core areas of focus for the school year are attendance and punctuality, dress code, courtesy, respect for people and property, cleanliness, behaviour and the main priority, academic achievement. In addition, Mr. Harris said the parents have a significant role to play in the wholesome development of the children; by ensuring that the fundamental lessons taught at school are enforced at home.

In relation to academics, Principal Harris emphasised the importance of parents spending time assisting the children with homework and also with their studies on a daily basis or at least three times per week. He expressed that consistent practice of lessons is critical in ensuring that the children understand and remember what they were taught in the classroom. Harris said once someone has a child going to school, the parents must understand that they too are back to school.

Harris acknowledged that sometimes parents may not understand a particular topic and suggests that parents seek assistance from their child’s teacher when that becomes necessary. He explained that it is important that parents understand the contents of lessons taught, so that they too can help their child more effectively.

Students of Primary and Secondary Schools in the Federation will return to school on September 7, 2022.
