Twenty-six police recruits to graduate from Police Training Course

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Twenty-six new Special Constables were forced to wait until Tuesday, February 13, for their graduation ceremony, the final part of their journey to become police constables within the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

The Police Recruit Course #46 Passing Out Parade was pushed back a few days due to inclement weather on Thursday, February 08.

Ahead of their graduation ceremony, Prime Minister Drew said the new group of officers are of good quality.

“We’ll have the first batch of police officers under my leadership who’ll be graduating, and the quality of the police officers are of high quality. We made sure they had the prerequisite academic achievement. So, it means, therefore, not only the academics but they were well vetted as well because you have to look at people wholesomely, not just in one track. So, they went through the training, and they will be graduating, “passing out”, as we would say here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The Police Recruit Course #46 consists of 16 females and ten males.

In an interview with the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service, Commandant Marvin Thompson said the dominance of females in the training course posed some challenges.

“Course #46 was challenging, not merely because it was my first course as Commandant, but the composition in terms of the number of females for the first time in my experience was almost twice as much as the males. So,  a lot of the issues, female-related, I had to defer to my colleagues. So that, in and of itself, presented a different challenge .”

The recruits of Course #46 went into approximately six months of vigorous training in July 2023. Initially, 31 individuals enlisted in the Course, but five failed to continue. The training was carried out in practical and theoretical formats.  The graduation ceremony is slated for  5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Newtown Playing Field.
