St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St. Kitts & Nevis National Commission for The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is this year embarking on an initiative to help garner more support from the public and private sector in helping to celebrate some international days that UNESCO observes.
Secretary-General to the St. Kitts & Nevis National Commission for UNESCO in the Ministry of Education Ms. Dorothy Warner shared in an address some of the observances that various institutions could partner with the commission to commemorate;
“We think of days such as World Poetry Day, World Water Day, World Teachers Day, also International Youth Day, Internation Literacy Day and International Day of Peace, just to name a few,” said Ms. Warner.
The Secretary-General asked that the focal point individuals from various groups liaise with the committee members within the Commission responsible for help with the plans and preparation for the international observances under the scope of the application in St. Kitts and Nevis to make the observances possible.
“This is our way of acting out the true spirit SDG17, which talks about partnerships for the goals. Further visibility for UNESCO and the promotion of the local institutions will come from our sharing of the footage through the different media groups nationally, regionally and also internationally. So everyone benefits, everyone wins, everyone is highlighted, and everyone is celebrated.”
These partnerships help highlight the presence and importance of UNESCO in St. Kitts and Nevis.
