On the evening of Friday, April 12, 2025, the Traffic Department, under the leadership of Superintendent Bradshaw and Sergeant Henry, executed a series of vehicle checkpoints (VCPs) in key locations, specifically the Johnson Long Path and the Island Main Road at Needsmust.
These operations took place from 7:00 p.m. until 12:10 a.m. the following morning, aiming to bolster road safety and enforce adherence to traffic regulations throughout the Federation.
The intensive operation resulted in the issuance of a total of 60 traffic tickets for a variety of violations.
A breakdown of these infractions reveals that 48 tickets were issued for exceeding the designated speed limit.
Five additional tickets were handed out to drivers operating their vehicles at night with only one functioning headlamp, a critical safety feature for nighttime driving.
Additionally, two tickets were issued for unsafely transporting children without seatbelts, emphasising the importance of securing young passengers.
Furthermore, three tickets were issued to individuals driving with unauthorised lights, which can distract other drivers and pose significant risks on the road.
Lastly, two tickets were distributed to drivers who failed to produce their driver’s licenses upon officers’ request during the checkpoints.
These enforcement actions underscore the Traffic Department’s unwavering commitment to maintaining road order and promoting responsible driving behaviors among all motorists.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has reiterated the importance of road safety, emphasising that it is a community-shared responsibility.
Motorists are reminded to observe speed limits diligently, utilise appropriate lighting when operating vehicles at night, ensure that all passengers are secured with seatbelts, and be prepared to present their driver’s licenses during traffic stops when required.
The Traffic Department remains dedicated to enhancing safety measures and reducing the likelihood of accidents on the Federation’s roadways.
