Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): The Ministry of Sports is set to expand its programme of support for vendors looking for a space to sell food and/or drinks.

Currently, bar spaces at the Newtown Playing Field as well as the Atiba E. Harris Sporting Complex in St. Peters are being rented to persons who provide ready-to-eat food and drinks to persons in their respective communities. During Day three of the Budget Debate on December 16, 2021, Minister of Sports, the Honourable Jonel Powell, said that additional spaces will be made available at Warner Park.

“In 2022, we will expand this initiative by establishing the Warner Park Food Court making some twelve or thirteen concession stalls there available for rent at affordable rates for persons to sell food and operate drink bars,” he stated.

The space rental has allowed the ministry to provide a safe and sanitary environment for vendors while stimulating economic activity.

Minister Powell said that making additional spaces available “provides employment for persons in the subject communities, generates income for the government, and assists with the general upkeep of the facilities.”
