by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Local Singer, Songwriter, and Music Teacher Venelle Powell and her friends hosted Recital Day on March 30, 2024.

The Recital Day was held at the David Freeman Centre of Excellence in Gingerland-Nevis, featuring five keyboardists, two vocalists, and two vocal groups.

Music students received certificates of achievement, including Ariana Daniel, Adrina Indrepall, Jessica Chiverton, Alesa Pemberton, Jaston O’Garro, Kenya Virgo, and Romel Liburd.

The vocalists were taught various skills, including band etiquette, mastering nerves during performances, understanding the use of the stage, diction, listening skills, breathing techniques, and more.

The keyboardists were taught basic music theory and keyboard skills.

Ms Powell said “Let’s applaud the valiant efforts of my keyboard and vocal students for successfully completing Recital Day. I am most proud of their efforts, and I do hope that the community continues to encourage them musically.”

Powell is a strong advocate for music education. She expressed, ” Music Education is needed in Nevis to provide avenues for the gifted and to teach a usable skill. We need more musicians here, and part of my goal is to create them.”

In a previous interview with WINN FM, Powell shared her intention to establish an official music school so that she can facilitate and impart knowledge to more individuals.
