St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Vincentians head to the polls today Thursday (November 5) to elect a government of their choice
Leader of the incumbent Unity Labour Party (ULP) Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is seeking a fifth consecutive term.
His main rival is Dr. Godwin Friday, leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP)
The voters list reportedly has over 98,000 voters, an increase of close to 9000 voters compared to the 2015 voters list.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines made up of the island of St Vincent and the northern Grenadines, a group of 32 smaller island and cays (low banks of coral or rocks) to the south, is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary form of government.
The Governor-General represents the British Monarch who is head of the 390 square kilometers state. The prime minister is the leader of the majority party. The unicameral legislature is the House of Assembly with 15 representatives elected to five year terms along with six non-elected members or Senators- four appointed by the Governor-General on the advice of the Prime Minister and two on the advice of the leader of the opposition.
With a population estimated at 110,000 people, St. Vincent and the Grenadines was introduced to the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council on Monday 2 November 2020 for a two-year term.
