St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The shift systems for the Washington Archibald and Basseterre High Schools will continue through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
That was the decision made at a meeting between officials of the Ministry of Education and senior management teams of the Basseterre and Washington Archibald High Schools and other stakeholders on Friday, April 16.
Mr. William Hodge Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education stated that input from school administrators and officials of the Ministry of Education resulted in the awaited decision.
The benefits of the shift system implemented as a means of complying with Covid19 Protocols, outweighed the obstacles that would have to be overcome in returning the school system to full-day operation at this time such as the brevity of the third term, the reworking of the time tables and the need for additional human resources.
Students of the Basseterre and Washington Archibald High Schools will therefore continue to attend school on the shift system as of Monday, April 19.
The Permanent Secretary added that barring unforeseen circumstances, the Ministry expects that all schools will start off with a Full Day of In-School Instruction come September 2021.
